Students were asked to design cars from
vegetables and fruits.
The car to be designed must be edible, have
at least 3 wheels and complete the 1 meter ramp in one piece. Students discuss
which materials to use as a group and draw their designs on paper. Later, a
durable and aesthetic car model is created according to the drawn designs. No
food used during the event was wasted. At the end of the event, food was left
to nature where birds and stray animals could eat.
The
students were asked to work in collaboration and design cars from vegetables
and fruits. It is aimed that the designed cars can descend down the 1 meter
ramp spontaneously and in one piece when released. The competition held at the
school increased their excitement even more. The fastest car was determined
among the vehicles participating in the competition. In this activity, students
improved their science, mathematics and engineering skills and had a lot of
fun. Using vegetables and fruits instead of classical course materials
increased the attendance of students to the lesson by attracting more attention
to the materials. Since energy transformation is an abstract concept, it is
very difficult for students to learn. He provided learning by living with the
students.
